Sculpture by the Sea: Local and international artists will transform Cottesloe Beach into a stunning sculpture park overlooking the Indian Ocean. (March 5 - 24 )

Australian Surf Life Saving Championships: Hundreds will flock to Scarborough Beach for this annual event that includes surf races, surf ski paddling, beach sprints, and surf boat races. (March 17 - 22)

The Great Escapade: Organised by Bicycle Victoria, the ride will allow you to cycle through the dramatic landscapes of Australia’s western coast, from the beachside wineries of Margaret River through state parks and country towns. (March 28 - April 5)

Perth Motor Show: Check out the latest Ferraris, Lotuses and many more super cars at this six-day motoring extravaganza. (April 22 - 27)

Margaret River Wine Region Festival: Celebrating the region’s fine produce, visitors can expect world-class wine, sensational food and a host of activities for kids.

June & July 2009


The City of Perth Winter Arts Festival: Running from June to August, this festival showcases the talents of the local arts community with operas, concerts, art exhibitions, traditional dance and other performances.

Good Food & Wine Show: There’ll be celebrity chef demonstrations, tastings, competitions and more to highlight the best in Western Australian food and wine. (July 31 - August 2, Perth Convention Exhibition Centre)

The highlight of the Summer Racing Carnival gets underway at the Royal Ascot Raceway on New Year’s Day.

The Hopman Cup: Tennis superstar Marat Safin is sure to draw the crowds when he teams up with his sister, Dinara, at this year’s championship. (January 3 - 9, Burswood Dome)

Perth International Arts Festival: The oldest international arts festival in Australia returns with activities taking place across the state including plays, ballet, concerts, screening and exhibitions. (February 13 to March 7)

Johnnie Walker Classic: Prize money amounting to $2.5 million is up for grabs as the annual golf tournament returns once again. (February 19 - 22, the Vines Resort and Country Club)

Rottnest Channel Swim: Slip on those Speedos for this 19.2 km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Thomson Bay. (February 21)

Port Geographe Bay Race Week:
Check out the largest yachting regatta in Western Australia with over 150 yachts competing. (February 21 - 27)

August 2009


Perth Boat Show: The newest, sleekest boats, the most innovative sailing technology and the hottest boating accessories will all be revealed for the very first time in WA.

Mundaring Truffle Festival: This celebration of the truffle brings together some of Australia’s finest chefs alongside a programme of complementary events, including tastings, talks and food-related forums.

September & October 2009


Kings Park Festival: Running throughout September, the festival showcases spectacular displays of native Western Australian wildflowers.

Western Australia Rifle Association: Duke of Edinburgh and Queen’s Prize Meeting: Marksmen throughout Australia will make the trek to join their WA counterparts in this major championship.

Perth Royal Show: The annual extravaganza has something for everyone from animal shows and sheep-shearing competitions to arts and crafts exhibitions. (September 26 -October 3, Claremont Showground)


November 2009

Red Bull Air Race: Daredevil pilots fly monoplanes around a slalom course at low altitude over the Swan River to conclude the final leg of the world series.
