Sculpture by the Sea: More than 60 artists, local and international, will transform Perth’s Cottelsoe Beach into a stunning sculpture park overlooking the Indian Ocean. 4-23 March.

The City of Perth Winter Arts Season will be on throughout the winter. The festival will feature operas, concerts, art exhibitions, traditional to avant-garde and classics. June to August.

Cricket: Test Series, Australia v West Indies, 16-20 December.
Polo in the City will be held at Langley Park on 12 December.
The Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race will arrive in Fremantle between 14-18 December and will restart on 3 January 2010.

The Perth Cup is the region’s premier horse-racing event at Royal Ascot Raceway on New Year’s Day.
Tennis: The Hopman Cup is the official ITF mixed teams championship, alongside the Davis Cup and Federation Cup. Burswood Dome, 2-9 January.
Cricket: One Day Internationals. Australia v Pakistan, 29 and 31 January.
Join in the Australia Day celebrations. Crowds will flock to the city river foreshores to enjoy the shows in the sea and the sky.
Perth International Arts Festival Three weeks of the very best of the world’s contemporary art. 5 February – 1 March.

Watch the largest yachting regatta in Western Australia at the Port Geographe Bay Race Week. Over 150 yachts will compete. 19-26 February.
Rottnest Channel Swim will see more than 2,200 swimmers participating in this open water race, as well as about 800 boats in the water. 20 February.

The Good Food & Wine Show is a colourful lifestyle event presenting the finest wine and food that WA has to offer. 2-4 July.

Kings Park Festival: Running throughout September, the festival has spectacular displays of native Western Australian wildflowers, and offers a range of free family events and ticketed workshops.
