February/March 2010

Join the Evandale Village Fair and the annual National Penny Farthing Championship, the largest of its kind in the world. Evandale, 20 February.

Held annually in February, the Hobart Cup is Tasmania’s premier thoroughbred horse race, a major annual social event. 8 February.

Festivale: Three days of Tassie lifestyle celebration held in Launceston’s City Park, featuring gourmet food and wine, and the colour and fun of family entertainment.
12-14 February.

The Clarence Jazz Festival runs for 6 days of concerts in a distinctive range of riverside settings. 23-28 February.

Royal Hobart Regatta: Competitions include sailing, rowing, open water swimming, jet ski and dragon boat racing. Derwent River. 6-8 February.

Cricket: Twenty20 International, Australia v West Indies, 21 February.

Tasmanian Queen’s Prize Meeting is the State Target Rifle Championships open to all marksmen. Popular with northern hemisphere touring teams. The combination of high winds and high heat is always a challenge. Campbell Town, 4-8 March.

December 2009/January 2010

Head to Constitution Dock to welcome the weary crews of the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race which started in Sydney on Boxing Day. Then it’s celebration time with The Taste, offering 8 days and nights of live entertainment, delicious food and wine in a unique Tasmanian style. 28 December –
3 January.

The Falls Festival will have 3 days of great music with local and international bands to entertain you against the backdrop of the Tasman Sea. 30 December – 1 January.

Moorilla Hobart International: This annual tennis tournament will be held at the Domain Tennis Centre, the 2009 title was won by Petra Kvitova. Who will be the winner this time? 8-16 January.

Cygnet Folk Festival: Cygnet is about 50 minutes drive from Hobart. Every January, the community of this southern town in Tasmania presents over three days a tremendous variety of music, dance, entertainment and related arts. 8-10 January.

Cricket: Test Series, Australia v Pakistan, 14-18 January.

Popular local and international musicians will entertain you all day at the Soundscape Festival at the Queens Domain, Cenotaph. 16 January.

April/May 2010

Targa Tasmania is an international motoring classic event. A 2,000 km tarmac rally with competitive stages on closed roads.

June/July 2010

The Antarctic Midwinter Festival highlights the Heroic Age of Antarctic exploration and the part that Hobart played.

Festival of Voices is a celebration of the voice. Don’t miss the Grand Finale and the Bonfire Concert. Salamanca Place and Waterfront. 8-11 July.

Chocolate Winterfest : A whole day full of things to do and see and taste, chocolate of course. Latrobe.

Devonport Jazz: A four day music festival featuring artists from interstate as well as Tasmania’s leading jazz musicians. 22-25 July.

September/October 2010

”An icon event of the North East” and “madness and mayhem on water”, the annual Derby River Derby brings the sleepy town to life for its annual one big day for the whole family to enjoy.

Royal Hobart Show: Experience country life with a carnival atmosphere. There is wood chopping, horse events, entertainment, rides and show bags for the kids. 20-23 October.

November/December 2010

The annual Hobart Beerfest brings you more than 100 boutique and premium beers from Tasmania, across Australia and worldwide.

About 5,000 motor cyclists (there are about 8,000 road registered bikes on Tasmania’s truly excellent roads) will show up at the annual Toy Run parade to raise money for charity.

The Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race which starts in Sydney on Boxing Day finishes in Hobart.
